I'm a beginner after 4 years away from fish!

Hello everyone!
4 Years ago I used to be a member here as well as a fish enthusiast.
I'm finally back again...
I just bought 2 35 gallon tanks with the Penguin Biowheel 200 installed on 1 and 2 smaller Penguin filters ( not Bio-wheel) on the other.
The questions I have are many: I have never owned 35 G tanks before- I always had a 10 gl one. I have read the forum for setting up the tank etc. but will probably need all the help I can get - both tanks are dry, have wrought iron stands and have gravel from the last owner already in the tank.
1. Can I have 2 35 gl tanks on a 9th floor apartment or will the floor find it too heavy?
2. I have no idea what fish to get- I always had goldfish and do have 2 small ones in a 2 gl tank right now that I want to migrate to the larger one. What other fish would cohabit well with the 2 goldfish? Schools like tetras come to mind but I want to know if cichlids get along well with the goldfish and maybe tetras as well.
3. I have the Python No Spill cleaner- any and all help here would be appreciated too. Have never used one before.
Thanks a lot in advance

Welcome back to the addiction--er uh hobby!

35g tanks should not be a problem as far as weight is concerned. You only really need to worry when you start getting north of 100g.

Goldfish are coldwater fish, and as such are not really compatible with tropical fish such as tetras and cichlids. I'm not all that experienced with coldwater fish, so hopefully somebody else can help you find suitable tankmates.

The python is incredibly easy to use. Just try to match the water temp to within a few degrees before you start filling. You'll need to use enough dechlor to treat the entire tank instead of just the water you're replacing. Sure you use more dechlor than you would with buckets, but the convenience of the python is worth it, IMO.

Again, welcome back to the hobby. Just a suggestion, perhaps you could make one of your tanks a dedicated coldwater tank for you goldies, and keep tropical fish in the other (you'll need a heater).

Welcome (back) to Fishlore!
In no particular order:
Goldfish are temperate, rather than tropical, fish, and don't do well with having a stable water temperature as high as tropical fish need, so their tankmates are limited. With goldfish, I think the general idea is 20g for the first, and 10g for each one after that, so that doesn't leave you with a lot of space to work with. You could probably fit a few white cloud mountain minnows in the tank, if you wanted to.
35g should be okay on an apartment floor. I would, however, suggest putting a piece of plywood under the stand, and try to figure out which way the floor joists go (you might be able to do this with a studfinder, if you try it on linoleum floor). Put it across a bunch of joists rather than along two of them. This will minimize the amount of weight being concentrated on one joist (or worse, between joists).
Pythons are great. Be sure, if you've got the water on and the spout closed, that you don't have the hose closed as well, or it might explode off of the spigot. You'll just end up with water all over everything, but if you're standing there, you'll be included in "everything" .
For the other 35g (the non-temperate one), you could go with a community tank (pick a few smaller fish that you like, do some research to make sure they are compatible, and set your tank up like that) or you could set up a species-specific tank (like guppies, mollies, tetras, etc...) If you want more help with this, feel free to ask questions. It's best if you've got some ideas of fish that you like, since you know your preferences better than we will, and a hundred of us could give you stocking advice and you'd have a hundred different possibilities.

I've got a 75 gallon and a 50 gallon tank in the same room, i'm on the third floor and never had any weight issues. Make sure you set up your tanks where the floor foundation is found, like in between 2 walls, don't stick the tank in the middle of the room where there is no support.
