Ammonia Confusion

I'm confused. I read that if you use certain ammonia lock products you will still show ammonia in a test reading. So how do you know your fish are safe? If you just have to use faith, when do you guess that the ammonia test results again mean that you need to act on the reading to protect your fish from an unsafe level?

I would only use the ammonia block products in an emergency...if only for the reason that you will get false readings on your test kit...in my opinion the best way to control ammonia water changes along with a good vacuuming and having patients for the tank to be cycled

100% correct Sunstrip! We should not be relying on ammo locks to lower our ammonia levels. Water changes.. and a completed cycle will take care of it.

Products that lock ammonia bond with the ammonia to 'lock' them but don't remove the ammonia from the water, so you still see the ammonia on testing.
