moving a tank

I need to transport a 20gal tank. The traveling will include an hour and a half in the car over highways and back roads. What is the best way to approach this type of move? What do i do with my fish? Do i need to take the fish out? How can i avoid water leaking over the edge of the tank on sudden stops? How much water should i take out?

anyone with any experience on this question i would greatly appreciate it if you give some input. Thank you.

I'd recommend putting the substrata, filter media and decor in a large rubbermaid container with a sealable top - move enough tank water to the container to cover it all and keep it wet.

The fish can be double-bagged with some tank water. Adding Fish Protector and/or Stresscoat to their water can help calm them. Be sure the bags are all securely tied off with rubberbands. A soft-sided cooler box with towels for cushioning is good for putting the fish bags into. Keeping them in a dark environment away from air vents, etc and minimizing how much they move around does a lot for keeping their stress down.

Empty the tank of water completely.
