The tank was really overstocked and that probably helped increase the ammonia toxin levels during cycling. The guideline for small fish is 1 gallon per adult inch.

WAIT by 3 you mean 3 gallons! you had 23 fish in 3 gallons! yeah, way overstocked. read some of the stocking pages in here and get an idea of how to do it, then come back.

Hi!

23 fish in 3gals?! Buddy, I have 1 Betta in 3 gals. In my 7.5gal, I'm only going to keep 1 Betta as well, as anyhting else would be to much fish.

You need to read about the nitrogen cycle, and stocking fish tanks.

I editted the original post.

Ponypals, I read in your post where you were talking about doing a waterchange and mentioned getting rid of all of the, and I assume you were eluding to a foul word with what was typed next, so that was editted to say 'poo'. Cursing, even when just hinting at it is not allowed on Fishlore.

Thanks.

Im still curious whether PonyPals meant "3" tanks... or "3" gallons for all those fish? in his/her aquarium info drop down...
Wonder if we will find out or not? Sometimes folks stop by with a question, but then move on to another site before the questions are answered... may be the case.. who knows? Anyway.. poor fish.. if they are in a three gal tank....

EDIT: NEW INFO... I just found another thread by PonyPals, yes it seems that it is in fact a 30g tank.. and not 3gals. whew! Now I feel better haha...

Hi PonyPal
The only reason I knew that it was a 30g and not a 3 was researching your other posts. You can understand the confusion tho.. when reading your aquarium info. You have the size of the tank at '3'. Maybe you can go and edit that, so that it shows '30g' instead.. and hence.. no more confusion in the future when you ask a question and folks look for answers by checking out your 'aquarium info' drop tab....
