i'm still cycling my tank... /sniffle... but ofcourse i've gone over the future list of residents like... a thousand times. here are the current potentials:

2-5 angels (may weed down from 5 to 2 if they pair up and no longer get along, LFS will take oddballs)

3 bonsai rams (2f, 1m - a smaller, long finned, pot-bellied version of german blue)

2 butterfly plecos (they stay pretty small - not the smooshed looking ones, the striped ones)

2 synodontis ocellifer catfish (these get bigger, about 5" - but are reputed to be quite peaceful)

and if, like i said the angels wind up being only 2, then i may add some kuhli's... i'd love some shrimp, but i heard angels might eat them.

i hope to have lots of live plants and some driftwood for plenty of hiding places... and some malaysian trumpet snails to keep things tidy.

ironically i could get discus cheaper than the angels that i want... but i'm too scared to try them.

so... feedback?

You could put in a school of tetras or cherry barbs in with those.

yeah, i thought about some neons, but everyone says they'll get eaten (i wouldn't mind that so much, if it were sporadic... but if they disappeared in a day, that'd suck)... i also don't want things too crowded... i'll check into the cherry barbs, or maybe some larger tetras. thanks.

zebra danios can be kept with angels sucessfully. They are fast little buggers and angelfish can rarely catch them.

Personally, I wouldn't put two kinds of cichlids in there although I'm sure many people do it successfully.

If you want a peaceful and pretty schooling fish, you might want to look at Harlequin Rasboras! IF you want tetras, Bleeding Hearts get quite large, are very beautiful and quite peaceful, for tetras.

How big are they? If they're the tiny, silver dollar-sized babies, they are difficult to keep alive. Discus need a very well-established and stable tank, with soft acid water that must be kept super clean.

I have some pristellas in with my angels and they work well together. Pristella tetras are a really cute little fish, and they get 2 inches, so the Angels won't eat them

Hope it all works out, post any progress on the stock options as you learn more.

i know they're difficult, that's why i said i won't be keeping them.

thanks for the helpful suggestions - i'll look into them further. i've kept angels in the past... a lot actually... and the only time i saw them display serious attitude was when they were guarding their eggs. and veils tend to be slightly awkward swimmers too, which is part of the reason i thought a smaller fish, kept in a school might be ok, with lots of hiding places/plants.
