Sleeping or Near death?

What does a fish look like when it is sleeping? Sometimes later on at night when i usually do my water change my 2 tuxedo guppies will be right up against the bottom. It looks like they are really out of it, either sleeping or almost as if they are dieing. So i'll quick do a water change and then they start swimming around again. Is this because i got all the bad stuff out of the water, or just because the water change has woke them up?

What is your readings? if they are normal then probaly you just woke them up. if your tank levels are bad then it might be you took something out of the water

That could be 'sleeping', but they'll mostly do that when it's dark.

When sleeping fish should be still upright, just holding very still. They should maintain perfect neutral bouyancy. My Betta sits perfect still on the bottom. But my Pearl Gourami likes to rest at the top of the water under the filter (I assume where the water is still). If they do it everytime and your tests are normal and you doing regular water changes, I'ld say it's a good bet that thier sleeping.

My guppies do that all the time, they lay on the rocks sleeping peacefully, but only at night or when the light is off. If yours are doing this when the light is on its probably a sign they are too tired and you left the light on too long. Fish need their sleep like humans or else they start to function abnormally.

Most all fish spend time in an energy-saving state that can be called
"rest", and we might even call their behavior "sleep", though it is probably
different than "sleep" in most land
animals.

well he must be really tired because all he does now is just kinda float, he used to be really energetic, i think its because my tank isn't cycled yet, i lost another shrimp today, i think i'm slowly killing off all my little friends
