What fish to replace Tetras.

My black neon bit the big one because they had Neon Tetra disease.

Now I can't put ANY kind of tetras in my tank or they will just get it.

Now what do I put in my tank?

I have my platy fry in my other tank. They grow WAY to fast.

I'd sterlize and recycle the tank. Then you should have all available options on what to put in there.

I don't think NTD is limided to just tetras. To be safe I'd agree with giving the tank a dose of bleach & re-setting it up.

Wait wait wait......... Sorry I had to look up NTD

from the sounds of it you should break down the tank and start over.

There is NO way that I can do that.

I 2 fish in there now, Rupert (fire gorumi) and one red wag platy.

IF I could find Bio-Spari (sp?) then I would take it down and clean it.

I there any thing that I could do OTHER than break down the tank? Would the disease not "starve" since there is nothing in there for it to live on?

From the sounds of it it can be in any kind of fish. get a container specificaly for fish and put the platy and gourami in it with the filter media. clean everything else with bleach then fill the tank and put in a load of prime. leave it overnight and test it and if water peramiters are good them put the fish and filter back on and hope for the best.

Hi!

I'll second that idea, Angelfish220. It sounds annoying - but must be done. Why can't you use Bio-spria?

The only way I can get my hands on Bio-spria ,as of now, is ordering it for DFS for $40!

My brother is looking for it locally,IF we can find it for cheap then I will take my tank down and clean it.
I like the fish in my tank WAY to much to put them through a cycle.

I do have a 10 gallon tank (not cycled) that has platie fry in it now. I could put a divider in it so there are fry on one side and my fish on the other.

Other than Prime, what is a good tap water treatment?

If I do clean the tank I would need some thing that detoxes heavy metals and the Bleach that I will use to clean the tank out.
I can get Amquel and NovAqua+ Plus but the Novaqua is $11 for 16 Oz at our LPS.
They only will knock the price down IF the price I give them counts the shipping.

Fish Protector is a great treatment, but we use it almost like a vitamin supplement. NovAqua+ is my 2nd favorite tap water conditioner, of what's commonly available.

Some diseases and such can go dormant so sterilizing is the way to go with that disease I think. But the fish in there would naturally need a new place to live - MTS!
