Need Some Help On These Fish

Okie. So I'm researching fish for a 14 gallon aquarium, and here are my decions, 2 Khuli Loaches, 2 Guppies, and 2 Ghost Shrimp. I think thats enough, but will any of these fish not get along? If so please tell me some fish that would replace those that will not get along, thanks aTon!

I never kept khuli loaches or shrimp so you will have to wait for answers for them but I have kept guppies and they usually develop a picking order so you will want more than 2 a trio would be nice good luck with the new tank!

thanks ok, so how about 3 guppies, and hopefully someone has had ghost shrimp before, so they can help me on that, as for the khuli loaches, I think those are cool, do you know if that overstocked? Or can I add another type of fish?

add up the FULL ADULT SIZE of your fish, and follow the inch per gallon rule (ghost shrimp count as 0 inches)

if your breeding the guppies, you need AT LEAST 2 females for each male.

good luck with the tank!

I think that'll fit. The Kuhlis add up to 10", the Guppies up to 4" and the shrimp aren't going to affect the bioload much.

Thanks! I think that's what I'm going to get, Moday we're going to PetSmart to buy fish. But I have regular sized gravel, would that be bad for the Ghost Shrimp, and Khuli Loach?

No, they should be fine. Make sure you give them lots of hiding places though -- plants for the shrimp (good artificial are fine) and some kind of cave or tunnel thing for the khulis.

Thanks! Monday I'm going to PetSmart to get the fish, though I have heard, that only the Angels from PetSmart last long.... I'm alittle worried.....Is that true....Or just another myth passed on from someone who had a bad experience..... Please tell me if thats true or not, thanks aTon!(pondering thoughts)

It really depends on the staff at the Petsmart. While the quality of their fish isn't usually the best, some species are fine (I've had no problems with the corys or loaches I got there). And some stores have a really good staff; others, not so much.

So I follow a couple of simple rules about buying fish at Petsmart:
1) How do their tanks look? Clean? Cloudy? Lots of dead fish?
2) Ask the staff if they have their own tanks at home
3) Don't buy 'commodity fish' like guppys, mollies, platys, etc there, since they usually come from mass breeders who don't care about quality, just quantity.

There are three Petsmarts in close driving distance to me. The best one has spotless tanks, never a dead fish, and the full-time fish staff member and her manager both have their own tanks at home. I go to that one for fish.

Ok, so I'll go and look, and for the guppies, maybe PetSmart because the LFS, aka Wal-Mart becasue all the other ones here shut down, ran out of the fancy male and female guppies...

Do you happen to have any fish clubs near you? They would be the best source for healthier fish.

.. I googled Denver Fish Clubs, so you could do that with the nearest large city or with the state to find some fish clubs. From there you can find the ones that don't come up on google.

I have made another decision, I shortened my list, 1 Kuhli Loach and 1 Ghost Shrimp, now can I have 2 mollies, instead of a Guppy?
