Thoughts and Ideas on New Tank Setup

Here is what I currently have:
10g Tank
-3 otocinclus
-2 male guppies, 3 female guppies
-some fry
-Java fern and moss

At the end of the holiday season, I will hopefully be giving all of my guppies away. Then upgrading to a 20g tank. I need opinions on how I want to stock that tank.
20g Tank
-5 leopard danios
-5 neon tetras
-3 otocinclus
-3 corydoras (Corydoras hastatus - Dwarf Corydoras or Corydoras habrosus Dainty Corydoras)
-Java fern and moss

Thank you.

That sounds fine to me!

After you cycle the new tank, it would be nice if you could let some algae grow before transferring your otos so they'll have food right away.

Neons look great in a larger group, just something to consider.

The dwarf cories should be kept in a shoal of at least 6, preferably a lot more. They tend to be timid in small groups.

Otherwise the plan sounds good.

How many of each should/could I add without the tank being way too overstocked?

Well the general rule is an inch of fish per gallon so you want about 20" of fish. Leopard danios: 2-2.5", Neons: 1-1.5", hastatus/habrosus: 1", Otos: 1.5". Now that I calculate it I don't think you'll be able to fit all four types of fish in the tank.

I would up it to 6 danios & tetras just to encourage more schooling behavior, but with that arrangement of fish, 5 probably would work but I would watch for signs of nipping since both of those are known nippers.

You could also compare tubes and pick out one that would encourage algae/plant growth in your tank.

Compare tubes? I don't know what you mean.

He means compare florescent tubes -- they come in different spectrums, and certain spectrums encourage algae growth more than others.

Thanks for the assist.. yes, I make a lot of sense to myself.

When you look at the fluorescent tubes, be sure to get the right length and socket type. Also, the K number, like 6,200K or 20,000K, is the "temperature" of the light and higher numbers mean more intense light.
