best species to have in 20 gal.
what are the best species to have in a 20 gallon tank? i would like to have between 6-15 fish, or if i could find 1 or 2 really cool fish that dont get along well w/ others, that would be okay. could you provide me with some possible combos that you know work well...thanks

A school of 6 barbs or tetras as well as 3 oto cats to deal with algae and a school of 3 cory cats would be a nice looking tank.

I agree ... I think a school of barbs or tetras would make a much nicer 20 gallon tank than a few slightly larger fish.
What kinds of colours do you like? Do you want active fish, or calmer ones? A relaxing school of neon or cardinal tetras? Some pretty colourful cherry barbs? Harlequin rasboras are pretty little schooling fish too.
Livebearers are also very popular -- platies, mollies, swordtails and guppies. They can be very attractive little fish too!

a tank of cherry barbs or glass cats would be cool to go with the otos and corys.

I read too quick, and I've just read a post about German sheperds. I thought you were suggesting a german sheperd for the 20G!

k-rock098 is right - german shepherds need 20g per inch! so even 1 would have the tank overstocked and the waste production would just be too much! :

I think a school of tiger barbs or even green barbs would be really cool in the tank.

Yeah, for 2 German Sheperds, you'd probably need a swimming pool!

Re: best species to have in 20 gal.
Hey I have 20 gallon tank too... I have 6 cardinal tetras there and will either be adding more a couple more tetras, 6 more tiger barbs OR a male (maybe female) betta... I am taking my chances with the beta but who knows, maybe I can make it work. They are very pretty. Good luck in setting up your tank! mmm I am probably very new but isn't a german shephard a very pretty dog?
