the plot thickens!!! Now what??

OK, I am the one who has been having a high nitrite level, that is coming down... last night I was looking close @ the Ghost shrimp & there were little round things kind of under the tail / belly area they appeared to be white... now today they are gone... do You think they were eggs?? & she laid them?? if so Now what do I do.... I figure I cannot do a water change or @ ;least gravel vac this week till the hatch & I can fish them out to put in another tank I am so confused & appreciate any info.

She probably had the babies, don't worry, you can do water changes. The chance of them surviving is probably 1 to a million. Unless its heavily planted mature tank with no fish that is, then maybe a few would survive. Brianna

Re: the plot thickens!!! Now what??

Sounds like a reasonable presumption that those were eggs. If you want little shrimplings around, you probably want to avoid vacuuming, presuming there are at least two Ghost Shrimp in the tank (one to provide eggs and one to fertilize them). If you don't have two, I'm pretty sure there's no point. I don't think shrimp can reproduce asexually. (Of course, nobody thought that komodo dragons could reproduce asexually, but they were wrong about that).
Some shrimp just scatter their eggs around, rather than attaching them to plants or rocks. You can do water changes, though, just don't vacuum the gravel.
Presuming you do have any shrimp larva, they need to be protected from everything in the tank, including mom and dad. Apparently, Amano shrimp breeders have had some success by keeping the lights off in the aquarium for a couple of weeks, until the larva get large enough to not be eaten by the parents. Since Ghost Shrimp are clear like Amano Shrimp, this might work. Can't promise this will work if you have fish, particularly nocturnal ones, like cories. Otherwise, yes, you need to figure out a way to separate the youngsters out. It would be easier to move the adults, or you could put a tank divider in and just hope that most of the larva end up on the "not mom and dad" side of the barrier.

Sounds like eggs to me too.. what fish are in the tank with your ghost shrimp? how many shrimp are in the tank? what is the nitrite level and what do you treat the tap water with?

Re: the plot thickens!!! Now what??

I have 3 neon's, 2 Zebra Danios,2 Rosbara & only the one ghost shrimp. the nitrite level is 0.5 today (per the pet store) i have not opened my master test kit yet to see what I get.
So if there is only one shrimp... they will not get fertilized 7 it won't matter anyway?

Thanks Again

with those fish, even if the eggs could get fertilized and i don't think they can, they're probably tasty treats for the fish.
