now, i'm sorry but my camera takes dreadful pics, but i've tried my best! now recently these "slugs" have appeared. are there such thing as "slugs" that live in water?... and where would they have come from? that tank is a fry tank, so no contaminated shop bought fish have gone in. the live food that goes in there is bbs which is hatched myself. no new decor or anything. all i've added is fry and bbs. i think i have a solution to kill them thanks to jim which is API algaecide that's unsuitable to invertibrates. (tried to kill my snails with snail killer and not one died so needed a plan b!!). they only attach to the glass, i've not seen them floating about in the water and they disappear for days on end. i started with 1, then it vanished, then returned with a friend or 2, and now i have about 15 of them. just curious if anyone else has come across them.....
"horrible slugs" is what i'll call them for now!!! there must be someone somewhere in the world thats seen these slugs before? and please tell me they dont escape the tank or i'll have nightmares! i dont mind slugs, but thats when they're locked putside in the garden! not in my lounge!
Put one of your carnivores or omnivores in there...They'll probably love them!
there's only lazy loach in there and fry, and the grubby sneaky slugs are thriving. i dont think any of my fish would eat them as they dont eat snails either :P
Without a better image, my guess would be planarian worms.* *
sorry about the poor quality pictures. my camera doesnt do lose ups well at all!
the first pic on this page and the description etc sounds just like them, except the colour picture at the bottom looks like an irregular shape, whereas mine are perfectly oval with uniform density.
the feeding habits fits though.....they've appeard since i've had fry and thus lots of bbs. your link said they feed solely on meat such as daphnia etc. wonder if i simply cut out the bbs for a few days then only use tiny amounts the worms might starve and die? i have been rather generous with the bbs as i figured polution wasnt a concern as whatever they dont eat in 2 mins will last til they next get hungry which for fry isnt very long!
also your link mention photoreceptors. it seems they only come out in the evening. perhaps when the room isnt so bright? wonder where they go during the day? anyway, this is looking like the most likely explanation except for the body shape (diff strains/species?)
thanks semantic drift!!
ok, someone has to ask - have any of your fish had a bad cold lately?* :* * seriously i'd guess a worm - if not a planarian, one that's close.
they do look like bogies!!! just not green! a tank full of babies (fry!)...what should i expect :!! i should've known having had 2 babies (human ones!)!!
i'm rambling again arent i?! :
could be the fish aliens coming to spy on my tanks ......my rainbow fish in the tank next to the wormy things was killed overnight by something mysterious. he was fine yesterday, dead today. not impressed with these aliens :P
Outside of grossing me out, I have no idea what they are.....
Ditto, please fish-god, don't let this happen to me! Yak. Good luck, Tan. (P.S. I think gross stuff is like heavy stuff, husband chores)
well, they're really hard to scoop out cos when you scrape them off the glass like i do with snails they roll into a ball which is soo tiny it falls through the gap between net and glass! the stuff jim suggested i cant find anywhere, so hoping if i keep hunting for i i'll find it somewhere and its not just a USA thing :. slugs, snails, worms,.......anything else care to move in? good luck in avoiding them. they dont seem too common so dont worry....just unlucky people like me get them!! i knew spoiling my fry with all that bbs would have a down-side :!
well its that time.....not seen them all day... did my usual water change today, and didnt see any........now the sun is less bright they are coming out to play on the glass. i measured one.....exactly a cm.
i really dont like them! i hate them more than snails which is saying something! anyway, not given any bbs since yesterday morn (ran out in the morn and didnt get chance to set some more up til this morn...fell asleep at 8pm on the sofa with the computer on my lap. i was shattered. woke up at midnight and bed was the only thing on my mind.....not bbs! - i'm rambling again arent i? :) anyway, i set some up today, so it wont be ready til tomorrow, and when i give it they will get a tiny amount that the fry will hopefully snatch up before the slitherer's get it. no shrimp pellets either. i usually throw a couple in once a week for the loach and fry to enjoy, but as these slitherer's are carnivorous they'd enjoy them a little too much too. my fry tank is going to be almost vegetarian for a while and we'll see if it makes any dif...
