cheapest substrate

what is the cheapest substrate i can use that won't rot, clump, or affect the hardness or pH of the water?

I like this because it's more natural looking. But you could just go to a dollar store and buy bags of glass marbles and that would work well too.

I agree. The natural gravel looks cool. We have black n' white gravel that looks pretty cool too.

epoxied gravel at the local food store. but I don't like the look of mine at all. I'm slowly converting to eco complete as I can afford it.

One of the Dollar Tree stores here has those river rocks in 2 lb bags. Maybe one near you would too?
