New Tank!!

I bought a new 58 gallon tank! I started it up on Saturday. I have a Fluval 305 which was meant for a 75 gallon, so I have more filtration like several of you suggested. My plan was to wait until Wednesday, and then add up to 5 zebra danios (this is what the guy at the LPS told me to do). Is there any other kind of fish that I can put in first to begin?

Re: New Tank!!

Congratulations. I would just take some filter media from another tank and put it in your fluval and let it cycle fishless. If you do it this way it will cycle much faster. If you don't have another tank you can get bio-spira is what I think it's called to start a cycle. It's better than doing it fishless.

Re: New Tank!!

I would also recommend a good test kit such as the Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Freshwater Master Test Kit and a goof water conditioner such as Prime to help your fish manage the stress of the cycle.

Re: New Tank!!

I'd also recommend biospira or a fishless cycle before adding fish. Then when the tank is cycled, treat the tap water with prime.
