Moving fish?
i might be moving out of state soon and i was wondering if there are some places that will package your fish and send them to the destination for you?

Re: Moving fish?
I'm not sure that there is. you can package your fish yourself though.. some of our experienced members, like chickadee know more about that than we do, but generally i know that you'd want to put your fish in well-sealed bags (either with enough air for the trip or those new bags that you can fill up completely but they still let oxygen in).. then you'd want to put a cooling pack for this kind of shipping in along with making sure the bags are secure in packing material. Tape it up, mail it overnight and get them out asap at their new home.
i think you'd put malachite blue in the water to reduce the stress of the trip, but i'm not 100% sure if that's the right liquid.
how many fish & what type of fish do you have? depending on how long a trip you'll be driving, you might want to move them with you in the car.

Re: Moving fish?
The trip would be from Indiana to Georgia so about a 11 hour trip. We have 1 molly, 1 danio, 1 rainbow shark, 1 iridiscent shark, and 1 tiger barb.

Re: Moving fish?
If you'd like to try taking them in the car, you could bag them, putting the bags in a cooler. (with cooling packs, if necessary). Just take them in with you if you'll be stopping any place for a while to keep them from getting too hot. You can find the breathing bags here: http://www.novalek.net/vshop/shopdis...nd+Accessories in different sizes. The Fish Protector product they sell might be a good addition to the water in the bags.

Re: Moving fish?
Thank you everyone. I didn't know if they would have some stuff so that we could transport them on my own. So thank you for the links as well that was helpful.

Re: Moving fish?
When will you be moving? Will you let us know how it went? Seems a very long trip for fish. Would you know a good soul who'd be a competent fish owner where you live now?

Re: Moving fish?
We might be moving the first week of August that is the plan. I was also trying to think of friends that own some fish but I am really the only fish lover out of all the people i know. I really don't want to make them go through and ten hour bumpy ride. But if and most likely we will take them with us tehn I will let you know how it goes and what I end up putting them in and all the details.

That's a shame (that you don't know other fish lovers). Come to think of it, me neither. We're a dying breed. Good luck with the move.

They can make it in a dark box being tossed around and all, so the trip will be much less stressful on them. you'll have them packed well and in an air-conditioned car. oh yea.. 1 thing i forgot is to not feed them the day before the trip, it will help them make the journey better. They'll do well & love it in their new home.

Re: Moving fish?
Yes, it seems there aren't many willing to put in the time to have fish. My man thinks its a waste to spend all this money on the fish but they deserve to be healthy and happy. O and thanks for telling me about the feeding part because i would have definitely fed them.

I see.. well, then I think you can skip putting little magazines in for them to read on the trip.

Re: Moving fish?
Yes, I was happy! We did have a scary moment though. We put the fish in glass bowls for like more wider flowers and well my man accidently hit one and it feel and broke. I was afriad that they were going to cut themselves on the glass but we got them all in time and put them in a plastic cup. He felt so bad I thought he was going to cry. But i told him accidents happen. It sounded more like something that would happen to me lol. But like I said the poor little guys are tough.
