Re: Moving fish?

I love it when our men show affection to the fish. The whole fish thing was my idea and my boyfriend takes suuuuch good care of them. He sometimes stops to look at them, points stuff out to me. It's really cool. He now wants fish of his own. It's really cute that he felt so bad.

I know it is awesome when they show affection towards the fish. He was all into when I said I wanted to get started on fish. He helped me pick everything out. Now he is in love with the little baby platies. :

LOL.. fish are great pets and easily draw you in.. and who can resist baby platys.. lol. i wish our Daisy would have had healthy ones, but tank inbreeding wasn't her fault and we have 4 still to honor her memory so i hope they make it to adulthood and can be happy even with the curved spines.

I'm glad your move went well and that there were no casualties in the bowl accident.

Re: Moving fish?

Oooo I am sorry about the poor little babies. They really have curved spines poor things. Yes, these babies have become really addictive i can't help but to watch them whenever I can. I was thinking about just keeping one or two from each batch of fry and have the rest as live bait for the two tanks. I know it sounds cruel and I will feel bad. I told James that was what I was thinking about doing and he was like NO NO that is mean. He said he wants to keep every single baby they ever have WOW .

LOL.. he must be ready to buy 2 big tanks to put the males and females in. ! The 4 fry that have survived are doing pretty good in the tank with the 3 adult platys.. at first they hid all the time but after a couple days they started coming out in the open more and now they are in there with the big girls going after food at feeding time and have no fear of them. The get around alright and will be able to live pretty normally, although we understand their life expectancy is shortened by the added stress on internal organs. Belle (the new alpha female) keeps them in line though when they get too pushy.

Re: Moving fish?

I really should get a little tank for the babies huh? It is great how much personality fish really have Each one is so different too. There a lot like we are .

oo we were thinking about putting a ad in the paper and sell them for like .75 cents each. Do you think we will get good results? Has any tried it this way?

i'm not sure.. with so few making it, we will just be keeping the ones who did (the spine problems would make a lot of people not want them).. so we didn't think of a paper ad since the cost of the ad would probably eat up more than the fry could all sell for. maybe flyers for them wherever you're able to and the ones that you don't sell you could maybe turn in to a LFS for store credit?

Re: Moving fish?

OO I forgot about the amount I would have to pay for the ad. Yeah it would be a good idea to do flyers. Yup James said we should start our own fish store and just sell one kind

Re: Moving fish?

I could of course be totally confused, but I thought one type of newspapers had free ads, but was very complete and full of ads and sold at a hefty price; and the other type is given away to readers, but the ads are not free. That was in the UK, and I could well be completely confused. Good luck with the fry business!

Re: Moving fish?

Well I have this first batch of fry all taken care of. I was talking to one of my friends and asked her if she knew anyone who wanted some fish and her church is wanting some for their VBS program. And James was kind of mad at me . He said you didn't get any money out of them? :

Re: Moving fish?

I put fish in a miniture fish bowl and some went into a plastic cup because the other fish bowl got broken. Then We transported them ourselves since we moved only about a mile away. we took out most of the water in the fish tanks except about a gallon or two and left the gravel in but tookout the plants and boat. Then we put the tanks in the truck andheld the fish one bowl in lap and cup in hand. I took me forever to get my danio out so I gave up and had my sister try and she ended up getting him pretty quick. Those giant danios are fast!

Re: Moving fish?

Yup they are all but one or two going to be going to church and sold to kids at the end. i hope they get good homes. I don''t know if I want to keep one or two. It looks like my mommy fish is prego again! I am surprised my molly isn't yet I am starting to wonder if they are not different sexes. But I will give it time. I would love for them to breed with different fish see what they end up looking like.

OOO I got a 1 gallon tank for my babies. THey were starting to seem crowded in the breeders box plus i needed a place to put the old fry for when the new fry would be coming. THey are getting bigger they are starting to look red and a couple look yellow.
