Predatory fish & feeder fish:

I have a 55 gallon aquarium housing six RB piranhas. I will admit that I was doing the feeder fish thing before, but it is not neccessary to do this. I've taught mine to accept a whole range of different non-live foods. This can be done. I was under the impression that if you have predatory fish, that you have to feed them live food.....not so at all. I guess what surprises me is that so many pet store owners make it sound like you must feed live fish. If anyone here has such fish, just let them get fairy hungry & then feed them flakes, pellets, or krill. They adapt very well. Just thought you'll might want to know that I'm converted over now. It's fish food until I sell them to a pet store owner & get my Jack Dempsey.

Re: Predatory fish & feeder fish:

A possibility for feeding them meat could be some cheap meat from your butcher, like trimming off cuts, etc. Meat they'd toss, but maybe could save for you to get for your RBs and give you a good deal on.

It's pretty cool that you've trained them to eat other foods, but they might need some meat in their diet for the best health, even bloodworms or something if not some meat bits.

Re: Predatory fish & feeder fish:

Thanks for sharing that. So many people get those fish because of their reputation and the machoism which is very sad to me. It sounds like you really love your fish and take good care of them. I'm glad you appreciate them for what they are and not as some status symbol. Kudos to you my friend.
