Just a quick question

Hi everyone

I have just completed our weekly water change. When I took out our plants to vacuum the gravel (3 artificial and one real) I noticed that there were small round clear 'balls' in hiding in the leaves of the plants. The only way I can describe them is like 'tapioca'! Are these snail eggs? Any help appreciated. I hope this question doesn't make me sound really daft!

Re: Just a quick question

sounds ike snail eggs. Why are you removing your plants to vacuum? The live one especially needs to stay planted, repeated uprootings will kill it.

Re: Just a quick question

Hi
Thanks for the replies. My live plant is in a pot and not planted into the tank gravel. I don't usually remove them when I vacuum the gravel but decided to today to give the gravel surrounding them a clean.
We have albino corys, neon tetras, swordtails and platties in our tank. Thanks again for the replies, I have noticed the snail population growing and we are constanlty trying to remove them but they seem to breed twice as quick as they are taken out!!

Re: Just a quick question

DEATH TO THE SNAILS! they are a pain - probably had a hitchhiker on one of the plants. you can try leaving a piece of veggie, like cucumber of zucchini on a shallow dish to draw them in at night. salt can do some damage to them, but also to your corys unfortunately. I think coppersafe can be effective against them, but the other fish & plants could be affected.. i'd try to draw them with veggie slices, remove them as you can and hopefully you can turn the tide without drastic measures. if your tank could hold a yoyo loach, a number of loaches love to eat snails. puffers do to, but won't get along with your fish.

Re: Just a quick question

An explosion of snails is usually an indication of overfeeding. Try cutting your feedings in half and continue to bait and remove the snails by hand. Chemicals to kill snails are detrimental to your beneficial bacteria as well as your plants and fish. Good luck!
