Right! First ever tank, first ever fish!

I just bought 2 days ago this wonderful new tank!
http://www.underworldproducts.co.uk/...ello_page1.htm

(I like it anyways..)

First ever tank I ever got.

Now, I must admit: I'm in a hurry to put fish in. Not LOADS... Maybe 2? Maybe 6? (Max, I promise..)

I was hoping to start things going by putting food in there, but was unable too because my car broke down (long story..) but was wondering.. can I cheat using Bio-spira or similar compounds? The tank instructions recommend waiting for 8 to 10 days but I really would rather not, if AT ALL possible..

Another question which I have is about light.
I'm a bit of a night person and would like to be able to see the most of my fish. So I was thinking, maybe turning the light on from 10am to 10pm. (tank has a timer) Obviously, a bit of light rom the "outside world" would get in before 10, but I was just wondering if the fish mind what time their light is on..

Thanks!

Re: Right! First ever tank, first ever fish!

oh.. and one last question for now.. I saw danios at my fish store (which are keen to get me start with "any fish I fancy") and read they are good fish to start with...

My wife's favorite fish color is blue and she seems to really like the neon tetras, but I read that they are a bit more sensitive.

What blue fish would you suggest that would go well with the zebra danios that is not a Siamese fighting fish for wish she doesn't seem to care for..

My tank is 30 litres (7.9us gallons, 6.5 imperial)

Re: Right! First ever tank, first ever fish!

WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME!

I want to welcome you and tell you that you have found a great group of people here. I have found a LOT of help here and I will try to pass along what I have heard from some of them.

The only thing that cycles a tank right away that I have ever heard anyone say anything about here on the forum is Bio-spira. Otherwise, WAIT. That is from personal experience. You cannot add fish too early if you don't cycle somehow. It is very hard on the fish and they are much more likely to have trouble with their survival and even their health later on. (Got that from a fish vet I know)

Now I will stop as my only fish that I know much about are the Siamese Fighting Fish and since you aren't interested in them I cannot give compatibility suggestions for the Danios. There will be other group members that have suggestions I am sure.

Again, I amglad you are here and I hope you enjoy our group. These are some of the finest people I have ever had the priviledge to know.

Shalom,

Rose
