PLEASE HELP! ASAP!! PLZ!!!

Please help. Around Thursday i noticed that i could only see 6 danios in the tank when there should be 7 in there. I looked everywhere and couldn't find him, but with the amount of work i've got for school at the moment I didn't have much time to look.

Anyway, today i did a water change and found him trapped under a rock, but still alive. I panicked!! I took out the rock and he tried swimming a little but couldn't move much. He looked badly hurt but my Q-tank isn't set up and i have nowhere to put it. So i got a buckrt (it's 2gallons) and filled it with treated water, put some warm water in (also treated) and put a thermometer in as well, then I netted out the danio and put him in the bucket. I then added some Melafix. I didn't know what else to do. It doesn't have a filter or heater, but im keeping an eye on the temp.

I might be able to set up the q-tank tomorrow, but it won't be cycled. It would have a heater and filter though. Please help. I dn't know what to do!!

He is swimming slightly in the bucket but at the bottom and on his side.

Please help i don't know how else to help him.

Thank you!!!!

Re: PLEASE HELP! ASAP!! PLZ!!!

One of my danios also hides in the rocks. He snuggled in under my one rock tunnel and almost got crushed by it. I wonder why they do this? I am terribly sorry and cannot offer any more assistance other than I know the feeling. I hope he gets better. My suggestion is to set up the q tank ASAP and put him in there. Take some rocks and equipment from a cycled tank and put in there with him. The nitrite and stuff may not affect a hardy fish such as a Danio. AS for medicines, I do not have aclue on what would helphim! Good Luck, I'll be thinking of him!

Re: PLEASE HELP! ASAP!! PLZ!!!

Thank you. Yes i will have to set up the Q tank asap like you said.

I forgot to metion earlier that he has lost a lot of scales and looks as if he is only breathing from one gill.

Thanks for the tips on putting stuff in the Q tank.

anyone else know what can be done?

Thank you!

It sounds like you've done all you can do. Get him in that quarantine tank when you can, and keep the water very clean. Hang in there!

Re: PLEASE HELP! ASAP!! PLZ!!!

Thanks Gunnie! I know i've done what i can now, and i wont be able to get the Qtank up until tomorrow, but im not sure if he'll make it through the night. He's stoped swimming now, and is hardly breathing. Maybe I was just too late.

Gwenz,

I'm sorry!! I know the feeling of absolute helplessness when something is wrong with one of your fish and you don't know what to do to make him better and then you lose him.

Try not to be too discouraged sweetie... We know you would've done all you could for him

Re: PLEASE HELP! ASAP!! PLZ!!!

I'm sorry There was nothing more you could do, really. Now the tide must turn to figuring out what caused the death and preventing it from happening again. Learn from this event and take its knowledge to better yourself as a fish keeper. RIP Danio

Re: PLEASE HELP! ASAP!! PLZ!!!

I wonder if he was already ill when he burrowed under the rock? I say this because I've had a few guppies who were clearly ill (hanging out at the bottom of the tank and not really moving for several days) burrow themselves under this big tank ornament to die, so I think that at least for my guppies it is an instinct.

This sounds right - a lot of times, fish will turn on a wounded/sick one and kill it so maybe that's why the instinct to hide. Maybe they already had & getting under the rock was his survival instinct. So you did all you could for sure and he had someone caring for him at the end.
