13 watt fluorescent light - 10 gal tank

Hi everyone, I just bought a 10 gallon tank and I am using real aquatic plants in it instead of the plastic ones. I have a 50 watt heater and a few fishies !

My question is, do I need to upgrade the lamp for the plants ?

Thanks for the help !

Hi,

I think you need 2watts per gallon for a tank with plants or anything that uses photosynthesis.

Do you have a 13w fluorescent bulb in now? What type of plants do you need, that's what determines the light you need? You can have a standard bulb and grow plants, you don't need high light.

Re: 13 watt fluorescent light - 10 gal tank

I attached a photo of the tank.

On the left is a redish big leaf typre plant (Water Primrose) followed by a nice green plant that looks like a pine tree (Carolina Fanwort, Green Cabomba), then there's a green round grassy looking ball and on the right a small green big leaf plant called (Anubias barteri var. nana).

I have a 13 watt fluorescent ligth in there now.

Holp this helps.
