hey all
this question may never be relevant but i have to ask it now cause if the power outage occurs well my pc dont run on batteries,anyway in the event of a power failure how long have the fish got in relation to heat loss and oxygen starvation etc.will the ammonia spike immediately with no filtration occuring.

Well during winter the can list maybe about 7 hours or more.During the spring-summer maybe a day. Mine went a day and a half without heat and filter.

I think it really depends on the weather at the time. Just for piece of mind, you can purchase an air pump that runs on batteries, and use if the power goes out to get some circulation in the tank. This especially works well if you have sponge filters. As far as heat goes, if you wrap blankets around them in winter, I think they can stay warm for quite a while.
