treating the tank for white spot
hello,
i was wondering if anyone could help me... I'm treating my 55gallon tank with ich medicine. It said in the leaflet to do it for two days and not to feed them...Well it's been two days, the ich is the same, or worse, and now i'm gettng finns being eaten! What should i do?
Thanks,
felix

Re: treating the tank for white spot
Im not sure which ich meds your using but fish can go as long as a week without eating. Did the treatment recommend raising the temperatue of the water?
A good way to treat ich is to raise the water temp to 82F for 14 days and do daily or every other day water changes and gravel vacuums.

Re: treating the tank for white spot
yes, i have raised the temp as stated...But with the eating thing...I'm aware of the being able to go without for a week...But after two days, they've started eating eachother!
Anyway, ive given them some food today, and a bit later on i'm going to add more medicine to the grumpy tank, in the hopes that the ich will be remedied at some point in the near future! Ahh, they were so friendly before, get a bit ill or hungry and they start biting eachother to bits... Bit like me actually!!

10 cardinal neons, 2 ram cichlids, and 2 ghost shrimp. The finns disapeared over night..Does that happen with fin rot? Also, the rams are much more aggressive than usual. I'm using Faunamor ich treatment

Re: treating the tank for white spot
How sure are you that its ich..Could it possibly be whitespot?
Also for ich as butterfly said raising the temperature slightly over a week is the best thing to do an i dont think you should stop feeding them altogether..Sounds like nonsense to me

Re: treating the tank for white spot
I'm not familiar with those meds. Finrot can slip up on you pretty fast and sometimes it seems like over night but I think you found the culprit when you said the Rams were more aggressive lately.
If your Rams are getting ready to spawn they will definately nip and possibly kill anyone coming close to them. I've had them chase full grown angels away from their chosen spawning site Could this be the case?
what size tank are we talking about?
Ich and Whitespot are the same disease known by two different names

Re: treating the tank for white spot
thanks!
The tank is 55gallons... The rams really are aggressive compared to usual...It's a male and a female, and the female is particularly aggressive..I think it might be because they're ill....But would they be ready to spawn in such diseased conditions? She does have a pink belly though... They are actually being abit aggressive towards eachother...Not nipping or anything, but sort of "seeing eachother off" so to speak, in typical ram fashion. But they never did that before the illness

Re: treating the tank for white spot
what i would suggest is doing large waterchanges everyday 50% or so and go to your lfs and see what they suggest and dont go for the low price you get what you pay for. i have used one medicine for several different things i cant remember what it all it treated but it was called "clout" and it does amazing. also add some aquarium salt to the tank with the increase in temp. let me know how it goes

Re: treating the tank for white spot
Clout is an extra strong med. The raised temps and frequent water changes for 14 days will get rid of Ich/whitespot. i really wouldn't mix meds.

Re: treating the tank for white spot
LOL!! if they spawn it will probably be a few days and the ich will be gone by then. Ram fry are extremely tiny and just adorable.

You would be surprised what you are capable of when you see those tiny babies being herded around by a parent.
