tank readings

I have a 72+ gallon tank...readings are .5 ppm nitrates, 0 nitrites, 0 ammonia but I have a ph of below 6.4 with a low range buffer and medium hardness.
The fish are Cichlids but they are swimming around like crazy, growing like mad and eating anything that falls in the tank. Have been doing water changes at about 14-15 g per week, tank finally clear fish seem "happy". I think that somewhere I read or heard, that if your fish seem good, don't change it. My water out of the tap comes out the same as above, but with no nitrates. Should I worry or try "Pushing" the ph and buffer? Thanks in advance!!

Re: tank readings

Please ditch the pH adjusting ideas. It is too unstable to be good for your fish. It truly is better to have the fish get used to the natural pH rather than try to adjust it and have fluctuations that could kill the fish. Trying to adjust pH is very dangerous.

I think your tank sounds lovely and can hardly wait to see some pictures.
