Well water...........

I'm from a rural community and all i have access to is well water. The water comes out at about 8.0 pH and when i put a pH adjusting tab in my tank it will go to 7.0 for about a day and then it just goes right back up to 8.0. I'm would like my pH to be around 6.5 to 7.....i've looked at a reverse osmosis filter but they are too expensive! Is there any way i can get my pH down and keep it down? (without an osmosis machine)

Re: Well water...........

Its best not to add stuff to your water to try and lower it. As long as your PH is constant, it should be fine. A steady PH is better than a PH of exactly 7....My PH is around 8 and my fish are doing just fine. Thats my two cents, but someone else may have other ideas.

Re: Well water...........

Unless you plan on breeding soft water fish, it should not be a problem.
As stated, a steady pH is all MOST fish need to do ok.
Stay away from those fish that need softer water ( apisto cichlids, wild caught betta spcies and some of the more delicate tetras and rasboras).

I have a well here with water that varies between 7.6 and 7.8 during the course of the year.
I have been keeping fish in it for almost 27 years.
