Evil danios??

I had two Danios as my first fish. The first day the little one (spaz) was really scaring the big one (blue). Blue would hide in a corner and would wait for spaz to go to the other end of the tank before trying to come out. As soon as she did spaz would rocket back and (what I thought was) nip at blue. She actually sat there and stared at Blue for 5-10 seconds before attacking her. This all changed recently and blue has been chasing spaz around. It is just as vicious.. only the other way around now. It's been over a week since I got them so I went and bought two more hoping to get rid of the nipping behavior. (Or what I thought was nipping behavior)

I don't see any damage on the fish.. but they seem to be very aggressive. I'm a bit concerned because it doesn't seem playful. Blue is finally being dominant and they really only stop chasing each other to eat the flakes I put in. Are they just being playful? Putting in the new two last night didn't seem to solve it much. Blue was checking out the bag while I acclimated the new ones.

I thought these fish were supposed to be happy and non-territorial?

Re: Evil danios??

Well if it helps ya... my danios chase eachother all the time. My big Bully in particular will chase the others all the time. It looked very aggressive to me when I first got them, but I'm used to them doing it now. Are you sure your danios are nipping and not just chasing?

It looks like nipping to me. Its not as east to tell because their mouths are so tiny... but they definitely seem to be going in for a little nibble when they get the chance. I've been watching them a lot since I got them.. and it seems to always be nipping. Like I said, though, they're my first fish so I haven't really seen any other behavior.
