Oscars

I was wondering if a small Oscar could be kept in a 10-Gallon tank? If this is possible how long would the Oscar be able to stay in the 10-Gallon Tank? It would be the only fish in the tank. Thanks a bunch!

Re: Oscars

Oscars need 55 gallons of water, the 10 gallon aquarium is too small.

Re: Oscars

Stradius is right. One Oscar needs at least a 55 gallon tank. It may appear that a 10 gallon is enough while the Oscar is still small, but don't be deceived by that. It's best to have an Oscar in at least a 55 gallon tank from the beginning because it needs this space to grow and develop properly. In a small tank he will not get proper growth and development.

Re: Oscars

yip, you often see baby Oscars in 10g tanks in the pet store bearing in mind not many fish stay there for very long. Mine are in a 300g tank and even that doesn't seem like enough space for them cos they get up to such mischief! they enjoy lots of space - nothing smaller than a 55g for one and 125g for two - they messy fish and need a lot of maintenance. So if you're getting a big tank keeping you baby in 10g will be fine while your new tank cycles but anylonger than that could be fatal for your little fishy.

Well, Good luck!

Re: Oscars

Good advice all. Even though it looks small they are such big waste producers a 10G would just be too small.
