fish without fins!

soo i've had these two rainbow sharks for a little over a year now. A while ago one of them disappeared. so i did some research on the internet and found that they are very territorial. i thought at first that the bigger, more dominant rainbow shark killed the other one, although i did read that they could become trapped in large seashells, which i have in the tank. Well this morning while i was eating breakfast i noticed something squirming around in the fish tank. i went to investigate and it was the long lost fish. The only thing is it has only its dorsal fin and some stubs for the other fins. it also doesnt have a tail. it is still alive though but it cant swim very well. i guess my dad seen it swim towards the bottom of the tank. so my question is will it be able to grow its fins back or will it die?? please answer quick!! thanx

Re: fish without fins!

First, welcome to Fish Lore Krista

If your fish is cared for properly and not bullied by other fish, it should grow its fins back. Can you tell us more about the fish? Do the fins look as if they were torn away from its body, or do they look "withered" as a result of some disease? It would be either that other fish did that to the shark, or that it has a fin rot. You need to know which one of the two scenarios it is.

Besides, how large is your tank? What other fish (and how many) do you have in there?
