Making Big Fish..Small

Is there a way to make potential biggISH fish smaller?

I know ways to do this are Feeding once a day, use minimum size tank, but is there any ways to limit their growth without being cruel or spoiling them in anyway if not ill have to have big fishies

Re: Making Big Fish..Small

Nature is what it is. If you house, lets say, on oscar, in a 10-gallon tank its entire life it won't get too big. It will stunt. This is where the "it will only grow to the size of the aquarium" myth comes from. Even though you'll have a fish that in the wild gets very big stay relatively small, you'll also have an unhealthy fish that will not come close to living its full lifespan. I always say that if you want to be a responsible pet and/or simply fish owner, you provide exactly what the critter needs to not only survive but to thrive. :-)

Re: Making Big Fish..Small

As JP has said ... it's best when you provide the fish with the conditions in needs to be healthy and to lead a long life. If you know you cannot get a bigger tank, then don't get the fish that grow large. Get fish that are small and that will be OK in your type of tank. You wouldn't want to grow and live your entire life in a tiny closet, would you? Also, I'm sure you wouldn't want to grow stunted.
