hairy food.!!!!! am i overfeeding?

i am going through the cycling stage of a new tank and have just put some small starter fish in.
i also had to re-home my pleco as he was sucking my discus to death.
i feed the small fish flakes or brine shrimp then at lights out i put about four or five algea wafers in for pleco.
the next day i get food floating around the tank with furr round it. is this normal or am i overdoing it with the food?

Yep sounds like overfeeding to me. The Plec would enjoy some fresh veggies. When feeding wafers 1 or 2 is plenty.

The "hairy food" is a result of fungus growing on food that is left in the tank for longer than 24 hours. Any uneaten food should be removed from a tank after 24 hours. By the way, what size is your tank?
