Hi ppl, We rescued some fish a week or so ago, amoungst them were 2 black widows. I was just wondering if anyone could give me an idea how to tell a male from female as one of them has a white bit on a tiny little fin on top of his/her body while the other doesn't . Also the one that has the white bit is extremely fat and seems to be getting bigger each day, while the other one is slender and has darker markings than the other. Is it possible the one with the white bit is female and full of eggs and if so could anyone tell me how they act before spawning and anything that needs to be done prior to them spawning and what about after do they eat thier babies?

Hi the way to tell the sex of your Black Widows is generally distinguished by the more pointed anal fins on males,and by the plumper bodies of females .Is the little fin that you are talking about next to the tail on the upper body,if so 8 out of my 10 have it.What size tank do you have because they love to school together .
