NEW SETUP

Hello there!

I have no previous experience of fish keeping (except goldfish a long time ago) but was thinking of buying a 10 gallon tank.

I have a problem because I'm not sure which fish can go with what, so I came here for help. I wondered if someone could help me place some properly.

I havn't bought any yet, but I like the look of Bettas, Corys, Tetra, Angelfish, Barbs, Guppys, Swordtails and Clown Loach. I also would like a Crayfish. I understand that tank size and crowding are problems.

I would be grateful for any help finding a setup.

Thanks

Dane

Re: NEW SETUP

Having a clown loaches and/or Angelfishes in a 10 gallon tank is out of the question. They need more room. Never put bettas and barbs with Guppies. The barbs will continue nipping their fins while bettas attack the for having similair fin velves. The tetras and corys sound good. They seem to get a long with every kinds of fish!

Re: NEW SETUP

So what can I put (if any) with the Tetras and Corys, and how many?

Thanks

Re: NEW SETUP

What you can get for a 10 gallon tank is some small fish because a 10 gallon tank is very small. Though you could have 1 Betta in a 10 gallon tank (don't know what fish go with a Betta in a 10 gallon tank - Chickadee will know for sure). Angelfish grow way too large for a 10 gallon tank - I'd advise at least a 30 gallon tank for angelfish.

If you want barbs (and you have to have some small fish), you can have cherry barbs - they're both small and really beautiful fish. They're the only peaceful barbs in the barbs group. Other small, peaceful, and beautiful fish are neons, zebra danios (though zebra danios need more room than a 10 gallon tank since they swim very fast), harlequin rasboras, + many other small tetras. You can research them online.

If you're not familiar with the cycle, please read about it before you set up your tank and get any fish. You can find lots of beginner's information on Fish Lore. NEVER buy fish the same day that you buy your tank. You need to cycle your tank FIRST. You'll need a test kit as well. Ask if you have any questions.
