HI group, I want to find out what are some of the harder community fish? I had a few Goldfish for a while, but I want to try a few smaller species. I have a 30 gallon fish tank, so I would also like to figure out about how many I should put in there. I did clean the fish tank out, so I will have to have some starter fish for a while. Can you mix black Molly's in with like lets say guppies? Any helpful hints would be great. God bless

I hear all the time that zebra danios and white cloud mountain minnows are hardy. They're both small and beautiful as well.

The hardiest fish for a thirty gallon community-tank I've experienced are Platies, Swordtails and Mollies..four of each with a higher female to male ratio along with maybe a couple of Cories ( to assist the Mollies with clean-up duties at the bottom of the tank) could work for that size tank..they all coexist with each other quite well, and can produce some interesting Hybrids when breeding.

Hi Black widow Tetras are as so tough, when i first set up my tank and got it wrong all the rest of my fish died except the black widows,but they are not the prettyest of fish but look got in a big schoul and us some other fish for coulour .

If I get 4 of each (Platies, Swordtail, Mollies) will that be as many as the tank can hold? Or that is how many I will need to help cycle the tank? Also can I get Black Mollies? I know some of the types of fish with in a species can be more sensitive then others in the same group. Thanks for any help you can give me.

If possible you should do a fishless cycle instead of using fish to cycle a tank. If you use fish they will either have a hard enough time that their systems will be compromised and they will be more apt to be disease prone or they will not survive the cycle process. The cycle can be done fairly rapidly by using pure ammonia or if you have a bit longer flake food. Here is the article you need to read:

Just make sure if you choose to use the ammonia method that you use plain household cleaning ammonia without perfumes (no lemon scented or such).
