I'm going to be moving back home to florida from being in wisconsin for a year, it will take about 18-20 hours if i'm driving non-stop. i have a 20 gal fish tank with a puffer,2 angels, and a gourami, how can i transport my tank that far without killing them all before i get there. I don't want to have to give them away i really really love them all * and i would certainly hope there is a way i can bring them with me, anyone have any suggestions?

I am from the Caribbean so in just 3 hours I can get from one side of the island to the other , but seriously, wouldn't a moving company be able to do it or at least be able to give some advice on it?

A bucket with a few holes in the lid is usually enough to do the trick here though...

I'm just suggesting, but you might be able to put them in breather bags and put the bags in a box. If there's extra space you can fill it with other stuff so that the breather bags don't slide.

I have had fish safely make it home after being in the same bag for over 24 hours. *Just make sure you keep the fish from any sudden temperature changes. *I had my bags in a styrofoam cooler

Thanks for your advice guys! Its my first real aquarium and i'm very proud of it. It would be a darn shame to have to give my babies away to someone else. Would any aquarium supply store have breather bags?

They make Oxygen tablets to put in the water for mailing fish or you could get a battery operated air pump with an airstone to put in the bag (just the airstone part) that will run that long. *I know that Butterfly has said she has used the Battery operated airpumps. *I buy fish through the mail all the time and they are in bags for 2-3 days getting here so I know they can be okay but I think they have the Oxygen tabs used in the bags. *They are not fed for 24 - 48 hours before going into the container so there is less waste in the water to contaminate the water and give them less ammonia and waste to deal with in the water. *

I brought fish from Florida( 7hrs) in an ice chest with a battery powered air pump. You could put them into an ice chest and carry milk jugs of dechorinated water and do a partial water change half way if you felt you needed to.
You could also ship them to your self. Maybe your LFS would show you how to bag them or show you how their fish come in. Most of them will give you styrofoam boxes their fish came in.
When you get to your destination and get ready to put your fish in their new water remember to acclimate them very carefully. The water is likely to be quite different.
