Vitamin and Mineral Pyramids..Help?!

I bought a couple of vitamin and mineral pyramids made by Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Inc. the other day..unfortunately,when I made the purchase I was rushing and did not really look at the pyramids closely..on closer inspection the V & M pyramids appear somewhat discolored, with marks that resemble waterstains on a couple of the sides..my first question is,is this normal?..are these things supposed to have an expiry date?..if not, then is it safe for the V & M pyramids to be used with the discolorations I'm seeing on them?..also,would charcoal in a filter affect the vitamins and minerals that are supposed to be released in the water from the pyramids?..and finally, one of my tanks is about to be treated for a possible fungus outbreak, with charcoal out and Fungus Clear Tank Buddies to be added, can the pyramid be added at such a time and still effectively do its job?..
Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Re: Vitamin and Mineral Pyramids..Help?!

I have never used the pyramids but perhaps I can answer part of your question. It is safe to use vitamins when you medicate in fact desirable to do so. It is reported that fish receiving vitamins will recover faster and have stronger immune systems later when they are on vitamins if they are on them on a consistant basis. I know that the few times I have had fish trouble they do seem to recover very quickly and seem to be fine afterward.

I would perhaps be a little leary of using the product that looked defective without at least calling Aquarium Pharmaceuticals, Inc. or going back to the store to check the other product they have hanging there. The times I have had questions about their products the company has been most helpful to the point of suggesting another company's product as being as good as one of theirs. I did not find them condecending or rude and very helpful and I do not believe they would tell you to use a product if there was a problem with it. I do not know if their toll free number would work where you are but there is always e-mail I suppose. I do wish I could give you a better answer.
