Some times when i go to local petstore they have a slice if orange in some of the tanks. for the fish to eat, does anyone now if that is necessary for plates . They told me the orange slice is for vitamens for the fish.

It's not necessary for platies or any other fish if you are feeding them the proper nutrition. If your fish will eat them, I'd say go for it. I know goldfish like them a lot. Anytime your fish will eat fruites or veggies, make it available to them if you can.
