substrate?

I have some old gravel from a fish tank that had turtles in it, can I use this as substrate for my tank.

Yep. I would rinse the gravel in lukewarm water for a minute or two before using it.

Thanks for asking to be sure!

Would the same be true for gravel that once was in a small lizard tank? If so I have all I need at my fingertips for tank #4 :::crossing fingers:::

yes you can use it wash it really good with no soap or you can boil it like i did with some gravel i got from a friend that had a lizard and i didnt want any lizard mess in my tank and if this is new tank your setting up with this gravel id let the tank cycle and gravel settle before putting in any fish

Thanks Guys! Ok, no prob! One of my girls has been begging for a guppy tank and I picked up another 10 gal garage sale delight not long ago. I'll show her how to get it sterilized properly in another couple of days (probably boil the gravel like Coyote said), and it won't take too long to cycle 'cause I have plenty of filter floss already seeded for it in the QT. Heehee, don't ya just love MTS, such a glorious condition!

The more tanks you get the easier it is to sustain as well.
