How do you order fish online?

I have seen on many sites even this one that you can buy fish online. my question is how do they ship it? do they out it in a bag and off it goes or is there a truck that has aqariums in the back. that would be a slow and carefull drive.

Eventually, but fish are usually shipped using a method that will get them there fast (within a day or 2) and are often packed with oxygen as well. They aren't in the bags for very long! Since they don't regulate their body temperature they have lower metabolisms and don't consume as much oxygen as say a mammal or a bird would, too.

The way I have recieved fish shipped is in a box lined w/ styrofoam in those fishstore type bags w/ one fish to each bag. Some will double bag some won't...
I personally have shipped fish a couple of times and had no problem doing the same as above, I will separate the fish that I am going to ship from the rest and not feed them 12 hours prior to shipping then bag them up w/ 1/3 water and the rest air into the box lined w/ styrofoam...
In the colder months they have heatpacks, etc....

Yep thats mine! Like others have said, they are usually shipped overnight and the oxygen in the bag is fine for the trip. Some people (bigger suppliers) pump pure oxygen into their bags. There are bags out now that you don't need to put any oxygen in, the breather bags.

Everyone does it a little different but basically its an insulated container, with the bags (double and triple bagged) inside of it. If needed, a heat pack is taped to the box top.

Sometimes people will "starve" the fish a day or so before, to lessen the amount of poop being produced. That way the bag water won't spoil so easy.
