Added New Fish

I just added a few more fish to my 55 gallon tank 1 week ago, four 1" Hatchets and a 2" SAE. The water is perfect. Yay!! Can I go ahead and add a few more? The next thing was going to be 3-4 Cherry Barbs.

The other guys I have are a couple Platys (one male, one female) and a goldfish. The Hatchets are surprisingly friendly.

The Cherry Barbs should be fine to add after a week... you need to take that Goldfish out though, they are a cold water fish not tropical.

Take him out? He is so happy in there!! Its a type of goldfish, but one of the fatter ones with the big rear tail. Man am I stoked about how well this tank is going.

Goldfish will not live for a long time in constant tropical water, not because they cant... but because their metabolism is not made to handle it, it just gives them a shorter life span. Also Goldfish are terrible for waste production, they give off about 10 times more ammonia than most other fish... especially in warm water where there metabolism is jacked up.

Ok.. I got rid of the fantail goldfish, and put him on my wife's desk.

I now have in my 55 gallon planted tank:

2 Paltys (1M, 1F)
3 Silver Hatchets
3 Ghost Catfish
3 Cherry Barbs
6 Fancy Guppies
1 SAE

I am going to get some more Cherry Barbs and Hatches. Also, I am considering Paradise Fish, and a couple different Tetras.

The tank sounds really nice. Have you posted pics yet?

I have to ask, what size tank is the goldfish in? They are huge waste producers and really need a 20g for one, although you can get away with a 10g for a short time with frequent water changes.

20G for a goldfish? That sounds extreme. I grabbed a 3 gallon. Well, I guess I will be heading back to the store! I just went up and looked at him. He was so active in my big tank, and now he looks so sad. Maybe I will put him back until I find a larger tank.

I attached a picture of my tank. Unfortunately, you really cant see the little guys.

Really nice looking set up.
We have two goldfish in our 30 gal tank. They will need to be moved to the pond in 1 year. That's how big they can get. Trust me, we did this last year. The guys grown indoors are huge and magnificient but have to be move to the big pond and boy do they love that!
