Just thinking...

If I were to move my zebra danios to another tank, I wonder what I could put in the 30 gal with William and the gang that would be really pretty. I can't remember who's post I read the other day that said zebra danios didn't do much, but they were right. They're a wonderful fish to start fishkeeping with because they are so forgiving...but I'm thinking I'm wanting to see something more lovely to look at. I saw some beautiful long skirt tetras at the LFS, could I put some in with William? How many (are they schoolers)? Are they nippers? Any other suggestions appreciated. I know I said the 30 gal was as done as it's gonna be....but I'm bored! LOL!!!

Edit: Ok, so I just read that "Black Skirt" tetras :: can be fin nippers. Back to any other suggestions

all tetras can be fin nippers. The larger the group they are in the less likely they are to nip. I have twelve neon tetras in a 47 gallon tank. Look at my tanks to see what else I have

Hi MrsM3197:

I would just add 5 younger Angelfish to see if William finds a new girlfriend, then give away the others.

In the meantime, to keep with a pair of Angelfish some neutral, tried and true tankmates could be a school of (8) Harlequin Rasboras OR (6) Marble Hatchet fish.

Since you already have nice bottom-dwellers (3 ottos and 3 albino corydoras), you could add three or four Kuhli loaches to your setting.

This is a modified version of an experienced fishkeeper suggestions for 29gal Angelfish tank (bottom surface equivalent to a 20gal tank).

This is the link I took the idea from:

Hope it helps

If you need ideas... Here's a link. Most of these will be compatible. Just make sure they're at least 2" so angels won't eat them when he's full grown.

Thanks Pepe,
I read up on the Kuhli loach. Info I read said they prefer sand, but can do smooth stone substrate. I think the smooth small gravel I have would be ok. They are a really pretty fish, and I am considering them. Also...what about Yoyo loaches? Are they a smaller loach species too, and would they leave Dale the Snail alone? I really don't want Dale to become somebody's lunch.

Thanks Hatchet,
I saw you had the Black Skirt Tetras on your list. The only reason I'm picking them out in particular is because I saw some the other day that were really pretty. The one short article I read about them said to use caution when adding them with angels. Have you heard of or know any additional information about that? Anyone?

Thanks Heart,
So, if the fin nippy thing can be fixed by keeping a larger school (I read 5 or more), do you suppose I could relocate the danios, move in a school of 5 black skirt tetras and a group of 3 kuhli loaches (or yoyo) like Pepe suggested? My math tells me that might be overstocking a bit, and I'm concerned about the angelfish with those tetras. However, if I can keep the water in check and the tetras would leave the angel alone it'd be a really pretty tank. Thoughts?

I know people who have kept them on this forum have had slight aggresion problems. Remember, a lot of tetras have a nippy reputation because so many people keep them in small numbers!

If you like Black skirts though... Black phantoms are pretty similar. Bleeding heart tetras are very nice as well! Mine are 100% peaceful.
