tetra safe start question.

i bought some tetra safe start this afternoon, and i just want to ask to make sure i know what i'm doing before i use it.
it is supposed to speed up the cycle of the tank right? so if i were to put it in my tank and wait for however long, the tank would be all cycled? or do you put it in and then add fish and it just helps to eliminate the harmful chemicals while the tank is still cycling?

your suppose to add the fish at the same time so the ammonia created by the fish feeds the beneficial bacteria

oh okay, so it'll still be cycling like it would without the safe start, it just make it not so toxic for the fish? or am i just totally not understanding this haha.

"Cycling" is the term used to describe the establishment of nitrifying bacteria.

Tetra SafeStart contains that bacteria... once you add it, the tank is cycled, but if you don't add fish at the same time, said bacteria will die off because there is no ammonia/nitrites for it to feed on.
