Does fish food expire or go bad?

I bought Hughie freeze-dried bloodworms and TetraMin Tropical betta Granules a year ago when I bought him, and I was just wondering if I should be throwing them out and buying something new? I bought the smallest ones I could find and they are both still 90% full, but I don't want to continue using them if they start to go bad or stale.

Thanks!

I would toss it out after a year to a year and a half, but that is my opinion, and others may have different time tables.

Thanks! Next time I pass a pet store I will stop in and see if I can find a replacement.

What would be the best food for a betta? Flakes? Granules? Some small, freeze dried item?

High quality pellets are best, like Hikari or OMEGA ONE and frozen blood thawed out. Freeze dried food doesn't have as much nutrition as frozen.

We try to give as large of a variety as possible, so we have things like:

brine shrimp
Freeze dried blood worms
Frozen blood worms
Tropical flake food
Veggie flake food
Small cichlid pellets (our bettas love them)
Frozen homemade high protein food (protein and veggie mixed)
Freeze dried mysis

There is atleast one or two other things we change it up with, but I can't remember right off. (We have so many tanks that we go through the stuff quickly enough for it to not go bad. )

My betta (rufus) Eats pellets and he's happy... I get him some special stuff some times... but mostly he eats "Betta Essentials" and he seems ok.

Hi cognizant
Fish food starts to break down (slowly) as soon as you break the seal .
It's a bit more expensive , but I always buy small packets rather than the super size containers which , buy the time you reach the bottom , have been exposed to air hundreds of times .
