Setting up the new tank... or trying to..

You know that saying, Life is an adventure? Well, some days I feel like mine is one VERY LONG adventure. Some days, I feel like nothing can go right!

So... My hubby has a 3 day weekend and he just finished fixing up the stand for his new 125 gallon tank. Its 10pm on Saturday night, and I talk him into setting up the tank and stand (my dad has to help him lift the tank, being 6.5 months preg, I can't) because my dad will be gone all day today. So, we get the fish moved (into a 20 gallon temporarily) and the stand in place and the tank up. And he decides to start filling it so that the sand can settle over night and it can start filtering etc. We get it half way full.... and water starts POURING down the front of the stand. I could just cry! So, we drain it and are now setting up the 55 gallon in our bedroom so that we can put the fish back in it until we get the other one sealed.
I know you are supposed to check them before you put them up, etc. But, this one hadn't really been used, and hubby said he thinks he siliconed the sides just as a precautionary, but didn't do the bottom because he ran out of silicone. The fish are REALLY not happy with us right now, being stuck in the 20 gallon, but it at least shouldn't be for much longer. We have moved all the sand back out of the 125 into the 55 and he's filling it up now. Once the sand settles down in there we can move them back home for a few days at least. We weren't too worried about cycling the new tank because we are switching the filter to it and the substrate as well as all the driftwood and plants.

I did have a question though, do I need to worry about bacteria growth with there being more water, but not more fish?

I think your bacteria growth is fine, if that amount of bacteria sustained your 55 gallon then it will definitely be fine for a 125 gallon.

There's very little bacteria in the water. It grows on the surfaces.

Your bacteria will adjust to the amount of food it has (fish waste and left over food).

That's why we add a few fish at a time, it allows the bacteria to catch up to the increased bio load.

Thats what I thought, but I figured I would double check.
