I remember a post of an injured Angelfish, the gill tissue (red-pink) was visible through a nasty hole. That thread, entitled "I Need Urgent Help!!!" was submitted by maddygirl, on August 18th; and is in the folder freshwater fish Disease -within the broad section More Freshwater Aquarium Topics.

I Need Urgent Help!!!

Hope this is the one you're looking for.

It could be water quality issues that lead to it. I bet it's hat - as you tank is grossly overstocked. (A 20gal would be needed to house them) and possibly not cycled. You'll need to do daily water changes until ammonia and nitrite levels are 0 and nitrates are 5. (Although it would be simpler to return them all the the LFS and do fishless, then get a betta when it's fully cycled.)

Thanks but those arn't what i was looking for.
Hatchhaven I know my tank is not cycled and have been doing 50 % water changes daily also using prime.

What i don't understand is the LFS have WAY more tetras in a 10 gallon tank and mine is overstocked? My fish are soo tiny. Also I put my betta in another tank alone.
Thank you for all your info

The LFS is only temporarily housing the tetras. They cannot live like that for long! The best LFS do water changes on all their tanks every day.

Thanks Hatch

I do a 25 -50% water change everyday too. I'm thinking i may have to do it 2x's a day until mytank is cycled. I just purchased tetra safestart on line and it won't be here for about a week so hopefully that will help.

I know I'm putting this the wrong way, so someone can correct me with the proper terms.

All those tanks are usually hooked up to the same kind of system with a constant filtering to whatever it is that the customers can't see.
Like always new water flowing in and out. Does that make sense?

Looking at the tanks in stores it's no wonder beginners overstock their tanks. That and the pictures on the boxes that aquariums come in.

Remember, it's not the size of the fish, it's the waste they produce.

Your welcome, I know it wasn't the best explanation.

My LFS has their filter system out in the open (as opposed to PetSmart and Petco where it's hidden) and just as Lucy says, there is a very large Plexiglas box filled with those balls that bacteria lives on. From there they have PVC piping running to all of the various tanks. So there is basically one huge central filter that handles all of the tanks.

Well actually, my LFS has a lot of tanks so there are actually 3 or 4 of those central filters taking care of 3 or 4 sets of tanks.

I want the filter in my LFS... It is a massive pillar that goes to the ceiling!
