leak halfway down tank

i have a 35g tank and it sprung a leak halfway down in the silicon joint on the front of the tank, the water was coming out quite quickly in a arc. i lowered the water level to stop it coming out and have removed the furniture, i dont really have anywhere else to put the fish except a 5 gallon bucket i use for water changes. what is the best way to repair this leak and will i have to empty it completely to do this? thanks in advance for any advice

I don't know for sure if you need to have the tank empty to seal it. But my buddy had a similar leak on a 55 gallon tank. He just drained the water down below the leak and sealed it with some tank silicone. He let it sit for a few days to cure and the leak was sealed.

sounds like pretty good advise.
but further details would be great.

did he just stick silicone on top of the old or did he remove the bad spot and resilicone?

For me, I would empty the tank and re-silicone all the way around to make sure it won't happen again.

If you don't resilicone the whole tank, chances are it could leak again and then you'll have to fix it again. JMO.
