hey, i was wondering what type of fish i could get. i have a 29 gal tank with 6 tiger barbs and 3 chery barbs and getting a clown pleco in a few days. i was thinking about getting swordtails but i am not shure if they can go with the tiger barbs. and i also want to know how many fish you guys think i could put in my tank. thanks

Hi langman, welcome to FishLore! The rule of thumb is 1" of adult fish for every gallon, so you have 29" to work with. I think that tiger barbs count for 2" each and cherry barbs for 1.5" each, I would count the clown pleco as 6". That gives you 22.5" of fish so far. I would add at least 3 more cherry barbs as they like to be in a larger school - that gets to you 27". I would probably add 1 additional tiger barb, or a couple of more cherry barbs (in addition to the 3 I just talked about) if I were you and then you would be fully stocked.

My suggestion would be three more cherry barbs to round out their school, the clown pleco, and nothing else. Any more and you'll have quite a bit of waste in the tank, not to mention a lot of active fish feeling cramped as others move into "their" space.

According to the fish profiles on this site, Tiger Barbs get to be 3".
