Stocking a 12g Eclipse

I am purchasing a 12g Eclipse. I want to move my betta from the 3g to the 12g. Any suggestions to what else I could put in the 12g?

Your only other options would be Dwarf or standard corydoras cats, otocinclus catfish, or maybe even a small group of kuhli loaches. These fish are your best bets as long as they are introduced first to prevent the betta from becoming terretorial, but have a backup plan ready just in case your betta isn't the friendliest tankmate

Would I be better off just dividing the tank and having two Bettas?

I just bought an Eclipse 12 and I intend to put my Betta in it along with a small school of cories.

I have either cories or mystery snails in with all of my bettas, who each have seperate tanks. They are all fine . A clown pleco would be good also in that size of tank, with several caves/hiding places. I also had otos and they worked out well. Make sure you don't get a chinese algae eater, they are aggressive as they get a bit older, and it was not a successful match at all.

I was not happy using a divided tank, although many members have great divided tanks. I had two filters, and they were well planted, but the 2 guys wouldn't stop flaring at each other - the bettas were stressed all the time.

If you decide to give roommates to your bettas, consider putting them into the tank before you introduce the bettas.

Good luck with your decision and let us know how it goes.

This would be a bad idea. At the moment, there are many diseases going round Bettas, and if one is infected and the one on the other side of the divider isn't, then he risks getting infected to!

Corys, Snails and otos are the only really safe tankmates for Betta. Be careful to introduce them FIRST, otherwise the Betta will think his territory is being invaded.

Good point. My Betta is just getting over an infection. I don't want him suffering again.

Thank you for all of the information. I may just stick with the Betta and two Ottos. I have Corys in my larger tank so Ottos would be something different and help with the algea.

You could put 3 or 4 otos in with the betta in that size tank -- otos are happiest in groups. I think they also do best in planted tanks. A new tank won't have any algae growing for them to eat so make sure to put in cucumber or zucchini slices for them or they will starve.
