| Gouramis There was some talk about the virus that was going around with the gouramis, and I was hoping somebody might know if it might be a bit safer now to get some dwarfs. Also, do DG like to be in groups or singles? If groups, how many and what ratio m/f, please? |

| I bought some about a little over a month ago and they seem fine.... not sure if the iridovirus is still going around or not though. You definitely only want one male in the tank though, they will fight constantly otherwise (I found that out the hard way)
EDIT : I also noticed you have Angelfish, do NOT put them together, the gourami will most likely attack them Last edited by clinton1621; August 21st, 2008 at 01:20 AM.

| Are your DG's male or female? My dominant male hates everything that even resembles a threat to him.... it is possible they would get along, I've heard of many aggressive fish living together without problems... it mainly depends on the sex, tank size, and most importantly the individual 'personality' of each fish, no two fish act exactly alike |

| I believe iridivious is still around - just people seem to have forgotten about it a bit. |

| I have dg's in with my angels also..males..in a 55 gal..the angels keep them inline..so I think all DG'S are different and the size of the tank really matters also
not sure on the iridovirus as my area wasnt affected thank goodness!! |

| Research the adult size of the fish you want to get. The rule of thumb is one inch of adult fish per gallon of water. So I believe that you would be overstocked. Here is an example, I'm not sure of the adult fish lengths, but I'm just putting lengths in for illustration only.
Dwarf Gourami's 2x3"=6"
Angelfish 2x6"=12
RTS 2x6"=12"
Bristlenose 2x6"=12"
Blue Cichlids 2x5"=10"
Total =52" so you would need a 52 gallon tank
Also, you would need to check on compatibility of the fish with each other. |

thanks | Try posting a new thread or get a mod to move that post for you - you'll get more responses that way and you won't be hijacking. |

| I have 4 large gouramis (3 female and 1 male) with one semi-large angel fish and the gouramis don't bother him at all but it is a 150 gallon and the angel is about the same size to bigger than most of the gouramis especially the male. This is also the crazy tank that originally lived in a music studio so I have the weirdest mix of fish that technically shouldn't get along but bizarrely do |

I actually had not planned on putting the gouramis with the angel, they would be for my son's 25 gal. Angel William is the ruler of the roost (so to speak), and his tank planning is pretty much set in stone...at least until natural attrition reduces the danio population. I was wanting to get him at least 1 male and 1 female dwarf blue gourami, but I would get him 1m/2f if the fish would be happier that way. |

I know a month or more ago I was visiting with another lady at the LFS and she was upset that the DG's she'd bought a week earlier had died within days of each other. I didn't know if her issue was because of the virus or other causes, but it kinda sent up red flags for me and I didn't want to buy a problem. I get plenty of those for free, lol!!! |

thanks | Jordon, I'm thinking that with a 29 gallon that might be way overpushing the limits for stocking. Not to mention the RTS (just from the tidbit I read) tend to be very aggressive with each other as they get bigger, and may make snackies out of smaller fish. Someone please correct if I am mistaken. |

| I'm sure it's definitely up to the personality of the fish, but my fish know their place. The Red Flame Gourami hangs out on the left side, and the Neon Blue is on the right. Once in a while the blue guy will wander over and promptly be chased back. The Angelfish go where they please and I haven't seen the Gourami give them any grief, even though the Angelfish are a bit smaller. It's just a matter of space, and I think my guys have plenty of it. |
