loaches and other bottom feeders

im going to be getting a green or gold severum soon, i was probably going to get a rainbow or retail shark, medium to large pleco, i was wondering if i could get some kind of loach or i would be better with a school of loaches then a shark

I know most loaches are social fish and like to be kept in small schools rather than alone. Not sure about the shark, sorry.

i think it could go both ways, i need something bigger though thats the other factor, i have two african clawed frogs in a 20 gallon which after i did my research i found out is fine, but i would like to put the in a bigger tank, i was going to put them in my 30 gal, but that tank went to heaven, i have a feeling that the severum might want to eat some frog legs if i did that, but i would love to have them in there

I don't really know much about loaches but if you do decide to get a Red-Tail do not, DO NOT, get any other shark. Red tails are very aggressive (but I do adore them), and they're completely intolerant of their own kind and anything that even kinda reminds them of themselves. However Rainbow sharks kinda look the same and are a bit friendlier. I think that they're fine with their own kind to so you might be able to have more then one of them. (However don't quote me on that, do a bit of googleing.)
Good luck!

generaly red tails and rainbows do better as the only shark. in a large enough tank with enought hiding i could but, i would like to get as many fish as poissble with out causing problems. i do like clow loaches but they do better in groups but i dont know how bad there bio load is

Clown loaches can get pretty big, over 12" and they require a lot of room to swim. I have 3 yoyo's and they are extremely active and only get around 6", plus they are AWESOME snail hunters so you never have to worry about pond snail infestation

The severum I believe needs temps of 73-77F while most Loaches need temps about 79-82F. it would also think Kuhlis are worms and good to eat.
i don't think cichlids and Loaches are a good match.

Actually, like many South American cichlids, Severums like higher temperatures. Around 80 - a bit lower or higher - is fine.

What size tank will it be going into? They can grow up to 12".

I would not keep African clawed frogs with fish, since they have poor eyesight and often grab unto fish fins and anything else that moves.

IF you're getting a really big tank, a Red Tailed shark would be okay with a Severum since sharks don't usually pick on larger, semi-aggressive fish.

Red Tail or Rainbow shark - doesn't really matter. They're both basically the same in size and behavior, so the choice is yours.

Do you mean the ideal setup for a Severum?

And as for the pleco you mentioned, 55 gallons is not large enough for a common pleco and a severum, if that's what you have in mind.

i mean as far as like saying ex. good bottom feeders for a community setup would be a type of cory. And with the smaller tank (for large fish) goes i dont have a lot of optoins, whats the biggest pleco i could have in with the severum or what would be a good choice. I have also been thinking instead of a shark i would get a 2 or 3 pictus cats, but im getting mixed info from websites in books. so far i have adult sizes for 4inchs to 10, and tank min tank requirements of 30 to 125gal. and this is from internet and book info
