confused new tank owner

Hi all,

I've just moved to a new house where a tropical fish tank is buiilt into the walll. (The fish came with the house). There is a pump, thermometer and a heater in the tank.
There's all sorts of cool fish swimming around, but in the two weeks i've been here, 2 fish have died.
it's a freshwater tank, and according to the thermometer in the tank the water is 23c, and I think there is about 30 fish in the tank, but most of them are quite small. I normally feed them a few pinches of fish flakes and a couple of those sinking food things for the fish that feed on the bottom.
The only fish I know the name of are 2 "silver dollars"
Are my fish getting enough food, and does anyone know why 2 of the fish could have died almost at the same time?
I have a few images of the tank and some fish in it, and if someone could tell how to attach them to my post i'd be stoked.

Thanks,
Ben

to attach picture. There is a maximum of size of picture you can add. I had to take picture with my digital at 1mg or smaller, and attach as jpeg. Or file size will be to large.

If you could, please post your tank size, and the ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate readings. If you don't know the size of the tank, click on the FishLore logo at the top of the screen and click on the conversion chart link. It will help you determine your tank size. It could be that the tank has not been maintained properly, and now that you've come along, changes in the routine were too much for the fish. It could possibly be old tank syndrome:

I highly recommend you get an Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Master Test kit which will include all the tests you will need right now. You can get them at most fish stores, but if you find the master test kit on the PetSmart website and copy the page, you can probably get it for about $13.50. Take the page with you, and they should honor the online price at your local PetSmart.
